Every object has many stories: how it was made, who made it, how it was used, who used it, how it was abandoned, how it was collected, and many more; thus, it has a bearing on people and events of many time periods. By asking questions of the object, we can learn something about all of those stories and maybe even a bit about ourselves.

Dr. William (Brad) Hafford is an archaeologist at the University of Pennsylvania. He conducts archaeological research for the Penn Museum and is one of the curators of its Middle East Galleries. He holds degrees in Anthropology, Classical Studies, and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World and has conducted more than 35 excavation seasons around the world (including Greece, Egypt, Syria, and Iraq).
