Climate change is not merely an environmental crisis; it poses a major threat to our cultural heritage, with devastating implications for historic buildings and archaeological sites worldwide. From rising sea levels endangering coastal sites to increasing temperatures, humidity, and wind speeds accelerating the deterioration of countless other heritage sites. These irreplaceable treasures are facing unprecedented risks that demand urgent and rapid intervention.
This Master Class will examine the far-reaching impact of climate change on cultural heritage, with a particular focus on endangered sites in Egypt such as Abu Mena in Alexandria which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Danger.
This master course will focus on the following topics:
1. Climate change impact mechanisms: Understanding how climate change accelerates the physical, chemical and biological deterioration of historic buildings.
2. Innovative restoration techniques and technologies: Exploring innovative restoration techniques and the implementation of advanced technologies to safeguard and preserve archaeological sites.
