About the Event
Why do we keep inventing monsters?
A creature in the forest. A spirit that refuses to leave. A monster waiting in the dark.
Across cultures, stories have filled the unknown with beings that are terrifying, fascinating, beautiful, mysterious and sometimes impossible to tell apart from gods or humans. But monsters are rarely just monsters. They reveal the fears, the knowledge as well as the teachings of a culture. They reveal something about the people telling their stories.
What makes a monster and why do we keep telling their stories?
Where Monsters Roam brings together voices exploring the strange and supernatural across Norse, Celtic, Maya, Greek and Roman world. From underworld beings and ghosts to Medusa, the Minotaur, nymphs, satyrs and shape-shifting gods, we will ask what happens when the boundaries between human, divine, natural and monstrous begin to blur.
Come curious. Come cautious. You never know what you might encounter…
