About the Event

Join SASA for a deep dive into the "man of many ways" with J. Susanne Wilson, Zoe Tavares Bennet, and MJ Pankey. We are riding the current wave of Greek myth obsession to look at how Homer’s Odyssey has survived the jump to the silver screen, from the 1954 classic Ulysses and the gritty realism of The Return (2024), all the way to the hype surrounding Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey hitting theaters this July. Our panel will weigh the cinematic against the actual history, debating everything from Bronze Age aesthetics to what Hollywood gets right (and spectacularly wrong) about the source material. If you have ever felt like the scholarly heart of the story gets lost in the blockbuster special effects, this is the conversation for you.

This event will be live-streamed on our Facebook, Youtube and Twitch accounts
