Join us as we discuss author Dr. Cary Barber's recent publication Politics in the Roman Republic: Perspectives from Niebuhr to Gelzer along with a live Q&A!
Cary Barber received his BA in History and Classics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his MA and PhD in History from The Ohio State University. Before arriving at Cal State San Bernardino as an assistant professor, Cary worked in history and classics departments at Ohio State, the University of Oregon, and Wake Forest University, and performed cartographic work at UNC's Ancient World Mapping Center. Cary's research focuses primarily on the Roman 'Middle Republic' (c. 330-130 BCE) and the impact of the period's (nearly) perpetual warfare on the Roman lifeworld. He also uses tools from the social sciences - particularly demography - to reconstruct aspects of life in antiquity for which our sources are largely silent.
