SASA Live Master Class: 'Runic Magic Part II - Between Fact and Fantasy' led by Dr. Irina-Maria Manea

In this lecture we will continue our journey among runic inscriptions with magic content. After several examples of empoweringa and healing spells, as well as invocations, this time we’ll be looking at love and fertility charms, as well as death and curses. From the more simplistic charm words found on the continent during the migration period to the more complex, poetical medieval expressions found on the Scandinavian rune sticks of the High Middle Ages, traditions of runic literacy point out both a rich native magico-religious tradition and an enduring pan-European connection.
